DR. EVERETT HERINGER: When it comes to pain free and cosmetic dentistry I have to reflect back to my youth. I had a wonderful dentist but he often caused me trauma and discomfort. I really felt in my heart as much as I disliked him and his services I knew that he was trying to do his best and I knew there had to be someway to make dentistry more comfortable. I guess if there's any one mission or one goal in my life that's to make the dentistry more comfortable to the patients. Whether it is for the use of anesthesia if necessary.

But more importantly now that the water laser is revolutionizing the way we do dentistry, you can do a lot of these procedures with no anesthesia and still maintain the comfort. And the patients don't have to suffer the sounds of the drill; they don't have to suffer the feeling of the shot or the anesthetic. And they're usually relaxed in the chair and the water laser, one of my patients said it sounds like a little popcorn popper. It's just like you hear a little popping noise. Again, it's a very comfortable, relaxing sound. From a comfort standpoint for me as a dentist, that I really feel is revolutionized the way dentistry is being performed. Our very first example was when one of my patients walked out of the treatment room, they were patting their cheek. I said are you okay, what's wrong? I used the water laser on him with fillings. He said this really feels strange, Dr. Heringer; I'm not numb. I said well that's good news, isn't he? He said yes it's good news. I'm very happy. So right away from the very first day I started using the lasers patients started taking note. They just said time and time again how much they enjoyed the water laser and how much they enjoy the laser in dentistry.
